Who am I?

A Service Operations Manger is employed by an HVACR contracting business engaged in the installation and servicing of HVACR equipment in residential, industrial, institutional or commercial settings. They are responsible for the management of service and installation staff and scheduling to ensure that the Service and Installation department reach their goal and budget.

  • Numeracy- Application of mathematics in determining profit and budget targets for service and installation department. Estimating and cost analysis to determine a project budget/estimate involves strong mathematical skills including use of formulas and calculations
  • Communication Skills – Effective customer service.  Also, motivating and ongoing communication with staff for improved productivity
  • Problem Solving Skills – Analytical evaluation and solving of problems in order to obtain customer satisfaction and achieve profit and budget targets.

What do I do?

As a Service-Operations Manager you may do some of the following:

  • Reach operational targets and budget goal of the Installation and Service Department
  • Hire, train and retain top performing staff
  • Assist in developing and implementation of policies and procedures for Installation and Service Departments
  • Ensure work performed meets local codes and safety standards
  • Work with Sales Department to generate sales leads
  • Work effectively with the General Manager on Service and Installation Department operations
  • Communicate effectively with customers and employees to resolve issues.

Education/Training

  • Post secondary education required. College or University graduate with a focus on HVAC technology
  • Additional management training courses are an asset
  • Usually requires experience of 5+ years of HVAC contracting related experience in service, sales, installation and service.
