RESOURCES AND LINKS

The following resources and links are provided for instructors, guidance and career counsellors who work in secondary schools or post secondary training institution, and have the opportunity to advise young people on career choices. Some of the resources sited are specific to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry while others are helpful for youth career planning in general. View some of the resources available as you assist your students in making career path decisions.

Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) (www.accc.ca) A national, voluntary membership organisation created in 1972 to represent colleges and institutes to government, business and industry, both in Canada and internationally.

Association québécoise d'information scolaire et professionnelle (AQISEP) (www.aqisep.qc.ca) Only available in French, this Association brings together professionals from the education and the labour sectors who work in the fields of occupational and educational information, development, planning or career management.

Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CCNIE) (www.cnie-rcie.ca). A national association of professionals committed to excellence in the provision of distance education in Canada.

Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF) (www.ccdf.ca). A charitable foundation committed to advancing the understanding and practice of career development.

Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) (www.ccpa-accp.ca). This is the national bilingual association dedicated to the development of the counselling profession in Canada.

Canadian Education Association (CEA) (www.edcan.ca). This association is a network for leaders in education. It looks at the latest trends and connects leaders in education with the most innovative ideas and important research focusing not only on Canada but internationally as well.

National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) (www.nacc.ca) NACC is an association of private career training institutions from across Canada and companies offering products and services to those institutions. The NACC's purpose is to encourage excellence in the private training sector and to promote the interests of its members and their students at the national level.

Ontario Co-operative Education Association (www.ocea.on.ca) - is a non-profit Association that serves approximately 1000 members

The Learning Partnership (TLP) (www.thelearningpartnership.ca) - is a national not-for-profit organization, the only one in Canada dedicated to bringing together business, education, government, labour, policy makers and the community to develop partnerships that strengthen public education in Canada.

Universities Canada (UC) (www.univcan.ca) - Representing 93 Canadian public and private not-for-profit universities and university colleges, fostering and promoting the interests of higher education in Canada and abroad.

A great resource for teachers and parents, the site includes art galleries, games, posters, climate change lessons and resources specific to grade 5 and Grade 10 S2/other senior science.

Real Games (www.realgame.ca) – Career Development – career planning activities for students – helps them to visual the future. Role playing – the life of an adult, skills, emotional intelligence.

Skill Plan (www.skillplan.ca) How do your skills Measure Up? Produced and maintained by SkillPlan, the BC Construction Industry Skills Improvement Council, with funding assistance provided by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada? An interactive site that provides an outline and application of essential skills applicable for construction industry occupations.

Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (www.caf-fca.org) National organization promoting apprenticeship training and education systems; providing reports and related information for students/parents/instructors and employers.

Career Cruising (www.careercruising.com) Online career guidance and planning system. Subscription required for access- instructors

Career Foundation (www.careerfoundation.com) Career Information about the Unionized Construction Sector in Ontario, Canada developed by the Ontario Construction Secretariat.

Careers in Construction (www.careersinconstruction.ca) Developed by The Construction Sector Council to provide information on range of careers in Canada's construction industry (including HVACR) and assist students in choosing a career path

Skilled Trades Careers (www.careersintrades.ca) Developed by the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum, a website where students/parents/instructors/employers will find information about careers in skilled trades (including those in HVACR).

Skills Canada (www.skillscanada.com) Olympic game styled competitions for Canadian youth involved in trades and technology occupations. Mandate to encourage and promote technological and skilled trades as first choice career option.

Trade Secrets (www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca) Government of Alberta website promoting and exploring trade careers.

HVACR Apprenticeship Program (www.apprenticehvacr.ca) The Apprentice Intake Committee will accept applications on this site for the first year Apprenticeship Program each year from December 1 to February 28. Only the most qualified candidates are selected for the program and are made available for hire to ORAC, UA Local 787 contractors.

CIPH Career Program (www.ciph.com) Canada's plumbing and hydronic (hot water) heating industry is meeting the environmental challenges of tomorrow with real-world solutions today with their career site which offers information about the career opportunities available in Canada's plumbing industry.

B.C. Sustainable Energy Association supports and promotes careers in sustainable energy including a guide to national sustainable energy training through their Clean Energy Classrooms initiative (www.bcsea.org).

Canadian Construction Women (www.constructionwomen.org )- website with resources and links for women interested in the construction trades.          

Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) (www.ciph.com) is a not-for-profit trade association representing the interests of companies that manufacture, sell and distribute plumbing, hydronic heating, PVF and Waterworks products and services.

Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) (www.chba.ca) represents those working in Canada's residential home building and renovation industry (including those in the HVACR sector).

Engineers Canada (www.engineerscanada.ca) is the national organization regulating, representing and providing information to professional engineers.

Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) (http://www.hrai.ca) is a national trade association representing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) manufacturers, wholesalers and contractors and provides information to consumers. Career Connections Job Board gives insight into current industry positions.

HVACR Heritage Centre Canada (www.hvacrheritage.ca) documents and explores how HVACR technologies changed 20th century lives and society. Interactive games, virtual museum and the story of refrigeration.

Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) (www.mcac.ca) is a national trade association serving mechanical contractors engaged in plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, controls systems, medical gases, welding, and fire suppression, primarily within the industrial, commercial and institutional sectors.

Ontario College of Trades (www.collegeoftrades.ca) – First self-regulated body in Canada established by the trades for the trades.

Refrigeration Service Engineers Society Canada (RSES) (www.rsescanada.com) provides training and education for professional HVACR technicians and contractors.
